The client, an Italian luxury furniture company, is a new entrant to the UK construction market and has been appointed by the client (Alrov) and/or architect (Chipperfield) on the Café Royal project in central London. In order to meet the scheduled start-on-site date, B&B Italia had to pre-qualify as a preferred supplier with the principal contractor, Mace. wep:HSE used its extensive knowledge of the Mace supplier pre-qualification process to support B&B Italia through the process, which involved proving competence with evidence that all internal systems, from insurance and resourcing to health, safety and environment, met the UK industry’s requirements.

Having ensured B&B Italia was able to start work on site, wep:HSE now provides on-going support, producing performance reports, attending meetings, visiting the site and advising on health, safety and environment improvements so that its pre-qualified status is maintained. wep:HSE also conducts site safety tours and engages all trade contractors on site, supporting them to address any health and safety concerns raised by the client.

wep:HSE profiled all B&B Italia employees working on the project and facilitated the necessary training so everyone received the correct CSCS (Construction Skills Certification Scheme) card. wep:HSE also delivered CSCS and CITB training for managers and supervisors in the B&B offices in Italy, significantly reducing costs and cutting through the red tape so the company could start work on site as soon as it pre-qualified.
